Man Nabbed For Forcibly Touching Woman At Long Island Stop & Shop, Police Say

A months-long investigation has led to the arrest of a man who is accused of forcibly touching a woman at a Long Island Stop & Shop.

Nassau County Police say the suspect was apprehended late Monday afternoon, Oct. 14, in Uniondale.

While inside the store in Merrick located at 2160 Merrick Mall, on Monday, July 8., he forcibly touched a 36-year-old woman before fleeing the store in an unknown direction, Nassau County Police say.

Following the investigation, Delano Brathwaite, age 27, who police say is homeless, was identified as the suspect.

When he was arrested, Brathwaite was also found to be in possession of several credit cards that did not belong to him. 

Brathwaite was charged with:

  • Forcible touching.
  • Five counts of criminal possession of stolen property,
  • Criminal possession of stolen property.

He was arraigned on Tuesday, Oct.15, at First District Court in Hempstead.
